Self-Portraits

Foundations in Image Making | Spring 2021

The goal for this project was to create 3 different forms of a self-portrait using the same color palette. These had to include an object-based portrait, an abstract portrait, and a 3D portrait made from paper. For all 3 of my portraits, I chose to visualize my happy place with my music, my books, and my dog. The style I went with was based of comic book art in order to highlight another aspect of myself. I started by making word lists and taking note of what kind of things I liked or used every day. Then I took those things and organized them into different compositions that would them be put into Photoshop and illustrated. For the doll, I mocked up a few different bodies and heads by very roughly folding together paper. When I was happy with it, I cut, flattened, and scanned it in to illustrate in Photoshop.
